It would be nice to have access to additional documentation. It sounds like you have a kit that uses the SC throttle body, so it is hard for me to see how going through the process to reset a stepper motor would result in a more accurate TPS configuration.

Our car runs rich as well, but I am pretty sure it is due to an incorrect table for the Rover temperature sensor.

 

Hopefully when the new sites are completed more information will be available.

Honestly, the base maps for the sc Ecu are ok, but just get it mapped properly.
Like night and day in difference. I'm running an mpi setup but using an spi temp sender in the earlier a+ head, so simply took the temp sensor table fell the spi into the mpi base map before it was remapped. :)

After having ours tuned, we are now running it in closed loop mode.

Seems to be more driveable around town.

 

It looks like the generic MAPs are not up in the new site yet, but you are correct some attention to fine tuning is required.

They will also share a MAP more suited to one's state of tune, if you email them.
