Morning

I have a 1990 Mayfair which has developed a slight fault

Recently it had a new flywheel installed over another issue by my normal mini garage - and had been running great

At the time it was noted that the brake cylinder had developed a slight leak - might this be the issue?

Basically over the past few days the clutch when pressed in and out has a very faint (whirling/whining?) sound

it is very faint - you have to the radio off lol

It has no other issues - clutch works fine no slips etc

The noise is there in all gears

It has clutch fluid in it

Any ideas?

Thanks

Lenny

That's usually indicative of a worn thrust race (also referred to as a release bearing). Was it renewed when the new flywheel was fitted? Most sensible garages would recommend replacing the clutch, including the thrust race when replacing the flywheel. The parts are not expensive. No need to panic, just monitor the noise and plan to replace the bearing and clutch when the noise becomes louder.

Worn thrust bearing, was it changed(comes as a clutch kit, which is advise fitting, along with the primary gear oil seal)

Thanks for the replies so far

The clutch itself was not changed at the time - just the starter motor and flywheel plus associated parts

Garage is open again in the new year so will clarify then

If it is the trust bearings how much of a job from a labour point of view is it?

Thanks

Should be under £100 for a clutch kit

Then maybe 2 hours max labour(including test drive)

If the noise is that faint and you didn't pay for a new clutch anyway I would leave it and keep your eye (or ear) on it. Go to the garage if it gets worse. I have fitted brand new clutch release bearings and they have had a slight noise on them straight away, it will probably last for years under normal use..
