Hi, daft question but here goes. I've been through all the helpful threads on clutch removal. Just a quick question before tackling the clutch on my 95 SPI. I appreciate the slot in the locking plate key needs to be horizontal to avoid a c washer falling out of position from the primary gear, but does it matter which way round the slot is? By this I mean if you turn the flywheel through 180 degrees the slot is still horizontal, but it's upside down in relation to where it was. I know it's a stupid question but don't want to lose the c washer. Picture of slot below - the garage that installed the clutch for the PO seems to have had trouble getting the locking tab knocked into position.

Get piston number one in tdc, line up the timing marks on the pulley with the timing cover and this will acheive tdc, then undo the bolt, did the garage do the clutch change with the engine in the bay? If so its very difficult to knock the tabs back as there is very little room to do so

IT does not matter which horizontal you pick the result is the same. The C washer is horizontal and will not fall out.

Using the TDC option mentioned above gives you a 50/50 chance of it falling as you are relying on the last person who fitted it to do it the expected factory way.

I don't like 50/50 chances when it is so easy to be 100% sure.

Thank you both, that provides the clarification I needed.
