So I'm in the middle of sorting my rear arms. The bushes and pins are perfect,no wear whatsoever. But the rubber seals are cracked and perished. I want to replace them with something that is going to last. Has anyone got experience with some uprated seals? Where to get them etc.

I read a helpful post on here where somebody had sourced silicone hose with the correct IDs and cut rings off the end of it for more durable seals.

Some careful searching might find more info, or you could measure and shop around until you find the right stuff.

I made a mental note to do the same when my seals perish.

good luck and let us know how you get on

Jon :highfive:

I don't have a solution here, however the silicon hose mentioned by jonlad sounds a great idea.

The only thing I will add is to be sure what ever you do use, be sure that grease & oil won't rot them as many rubber products are not compatible with Oil.

Don't know who I copied  :whistling: I came up with the jig though, it needs a brand new blade in the extendable knifes you can get.

Clever solution! But 20 odd years ago I just used the standard rubber items .... to ensure they seated properly wrapped them in a few winds of electrical tape that stayed on (most useful for the seals on the front upper arms) - they're still absolutely fine.....

but 20 odd years ago the quality of rubber components was much better. Modern replacement rubber stuff doesn't last long at all before the rubber has cracked and split. That goes for most replacement rubber components available for the Mini these days!! It's all to do with the bad stuff they use to put in the rubber that made it last. Its just like the cadmium plate, that was bad too. Everything that was good at what it did was bad, and can no longer be used so we now have to put up with the crap we are left with. I hunt down new old stock parts wherever I can.

Side note: The silicon rubber hose should work better, but it still doesn't like the oil based greases. In the application it is being used, it shouldn't cause any concern. The fluorosilicone hose should be preferred, but it is expensive.
