Hi everyone,

I hope you all well and deep into your winter projects and repairs.

So, to the reason for my introduction is.................................................. I am opening a Museum dedicated to the national treasure that is the Mini. We are called the Mini Museum and can be found at www.minimuseum.co.uk, Instagram Minimuseum and Facebook @minimuseumuk. The Location is going to be just outside Sheffield South Yorkshire with easy access from the M1 at junction 34 (Meadowhall) I have an 8,000 square foot space that I will begin to shape in Mid Feb. I aim to open the doors in MAY 2018.

I currently have my own collection to show plus a few other Mini fans cars to display. So at current around 15/17 cars ranging from very early to very late and all types and models in between.

There are several reasons for my introduction and I will try to cover a few now.

1) Do people believe there is a need for this and would you visit?

2) Other than Cars themselves what would people like to see? For example, magazines, Model collections, Brouchers, ART etc etc

3) Does anyone have a desire to have their car/cars on display for fix term lengths?

4) Does anyone know of or have any collections on public display?

5) Could there be a desire from a northern version of London to Brighton, Sheffield to Whitby or similar?

6) Is this something that you guys and Gals would be keen to share?

7) does anyone want to help/support this venture? Either with Time, financially or collections and Cars?

The list can go on but I guess that will suffice for now.

Anyway, before I bore the life out of you, I'll get off.

Thanks for your time and any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Branding idea is attached.

Thanks

Sam

Sounds like a great idea.

Some observations made in good faith

I think it will go well initially but with all ventures like this it will be how you keep it ‘fresh’. Location wise it is brilliant (I’m originally from Sheffield so I’m bound to be biased!). If you as the enthusiast is visiting then it’s proximity to Meadowhall is good if your other half ain’t bothered.

Layout wise it needs to tell the story of the mini, not just a collection of nice cars. The Cotswold motor museum does that really well showing cars and automobila through time. Also have look at the Lakeland motor museum to which is excellent. They also managed to get some lottery funding as it’s does educational stuff with local schools. Automobilia is also important to paint the picture and engage the non car person.

Have you got sufficient parking to do a cars and coffee type meet say once a month?

Classic car magazines will also be good for free advertising especially if they get to drive one of the cars for example.

Do something people can relate to e.g an Italian job or Monte Carlo rally display.

Get your local owners clubs involved

Sheffield to Whitby run brilliant idea I’m sure there would be demand for that

Branding is a bit bland for me I’d go for something with British flag as it’s more eye catching

Very best of luck with your venture. As they say ‘build it and they will come come’......I know I will !!

Feasibility is likely to hang on attracting enough footfall from other than Mini enthusiasts. Think about other angles to attract punters, 60's and 70's themed events. Temporary exhibitions themed around famous Mini owners etc. Work out a package on design and manufacture to offer to schools and colleges to attract student group visits.

A Northern Mini run isn't a bad idea, but it sounds like you'll have enough on your plate. I'd have thought Scarborough or Blackpool would be more amenable venues, with room to grow. Whitby struggles to handle the tourist traffic it already has.

Thanks, Pistonbroke66, all feedback greatly appreciated.

I plan to change the cars regularly and hopefully add some great no MINI collections Ie models etc etc

I think I'm going with the timeline theme, so from day one to day finish and everything in between signs, paint colours, themes Years, clothing. I used to visit the Cotswold museum all the time as I'm from around the corner originally.

Yes, ample parking and a great idea.

Classic car magazines is a great idea, I'm hoping the Mini mags will want to get involved also.

Yes hoping Sheffield and Barnsley Mini clubs will get onboard.

Yeah, I think we need a northern run also.

Will keep you updated on progress.

Cheers

Hi Ethel, Great ideas and you're exactly right.

Now that is an idea, Whitby is terrible for traffic at the best of times.

Thanks for the message back.
