Hi all,

I have recently bought a '94 Mayfair after a 15 year hiatus having owning one in my teens and early twenties.

Basically the engine doesn't match the log book which shows a 1275 carb.

It looks like an MPI with a side mounted rad if that can be a thing?

Thanks

Can be if you cobble a load of bits together.

Maybe the previous owner wanted abit more grunt so dropped a Cooper engine in?

Looks like it has maybe had a Jap spec engine transplanted?....see below:

The Japanese spec 1996 onwards Minis used the MPi block, with the SPi injection manifold and with air conditioning and a side mounted radiator. The ECU looks similar to an SPi ECU however the distributor was replaced with a coil pack the same as the UK MPi. Some were manual gearbox but many were automatic for Jap export market.

But if the engine was transplanted from a later Jap spec car then few UK owners would include the AC due to all the extra complication in the engine bay, etc.

Would be easy to lift the carpet and see if it’s a MPI floor.

There'd be holes in it?

Here's the VIN

VIN is for a 1275 carb Mayfair, RHD Automatic.

(If I've decoded that correctly)

MPI floor front foot wells are a very different shape to the carb floor.
