Petrol Leak. Possibly From The Carb

Best Answer smurfomatic , 11 January 2018 - 03:39 PM

Possibly from the carb bowl overflow? Had a similar issue when the float valve got stuck and petrol came out of the overflow pipe.

Hi All,

I thought I had a just a petrol leak but thought it very strange that it was running onto the floor at the offside front corner and it doesn't start leaking until the car has been running for a minute or more.

Could I be right in thinking that it could be from the carburettor?

If so, what would cause that?

Any other pearls of wisdom will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Neville

Agree with Smurfomatic, I had the same issue when i bought mine home, leaking fuel from offside front wheel area. Mine turned out to be the carb fuel chamber overflow float pin missing, very bizarre.

Thanks guys.

I'll take the top of the overflow and have a look inside.

Yep most likely the float needle valve, if you fit a new one check the height of it. Look in the haynes manual to see how to do it.

Thanks for your comments.

I took the top of the float bowl, removed the float, cleaned the float and the needle and reassembled.

As if by magic, no more petrol running on the floor.

Thanks again.

Neville
