I have just seen a white 1991 Cooper advertised for sale. Looking at the photos, the engine is red with the cooper air filter housing. The engine bay is white. The seller claims that it is an original Cooper but as far as I know, the 1991 carb cooper was never available in white. I have seen red, green, black and silver (1992).
I will eventually check the chassis and vin numbers if I go to see the car but I would appreciate any info.
Thanks

Yep they were available in white with a black roof and bonnet stripes

I got my info from 'Mini Cooper the real thing' by John Tipler.

Also remember then well from when I was looking for mine all those years ago, I ended up with a red one.

According to John Parnell in CooperWorld Oct 2011 the available colours for the "Mainstream" Cooper were:

Black (roof White Diamond)

British Racing Green (roof White Diamond)

Flame Red (roof White Diamond)

Quicksilver (roof black)

Storm Gray (roof black)

White Diamond (roof black)

Bonnet stripes were not standard on the Mainstream but available as an option.

Yep, miss-read the bonnet stripe bit in my book. It also says that miniltes were also an option on the mainstream, don't think I've seen one without.

Looking at the photos again, I noticed that there is also a sunroof. Was this an optional extra?

Could well have been, mine has a Britax fold back one that the previous owner said was fitted as a factory option when new.

The Mainstream Cooper was quite plain without many of the features on the limited edition RSP, which relaunched the Mini Cooper after 19 years. But many of these features were available for the Mainstream as optional extras - front spotlights for example. The RSP had a Webasto glass sunroof so it is very likely this same feature was available as an extra on a Mainstream.

yes mainstream coopers were available in white.

yes bonnet stripes were available as an option.

yes, a sunroof was available as an option, as were spotlights, mud flaps and a plastic boot tray.

minilights were NOT available as an option, they were bog standard factory spec (i suggest you throw that book away)
