I have bought two consecutive Indicator/horn/main beam stalks made by lucas and both have failed at the cheap stupid plastic but which controls the main beam and flashing action on the indicator stalk... I cant see how to get a new stalk which isnt Lucas or get one where I know its going to last... at £30 a pop they break like they are single use!! Please help 😁

I bought done recently, they haven't failed but they are *******.

Are there any good options for putting stalks on from something else instead?

Can you buy a good 2nd hand one from the wreckers? What year is the car?

Yeah, they were never as good as those in other cars years back though acceptable - just.

I think there's only one manufacturer of them and they are even worse than they once were.

It's all getting a bit sad,,,,,

I've been looking at what other stalk can be used or retro-fitted to the Mini, but there's little (nothing I can find !) else out there that has the Horn Switch on the end of the Stalk like the Mini does.

I think you could possibly work around the horn, my steering wheel has a button for example.

Would be more annoying if there were features that weren't compatible with the mini such as variable intermittent wipers etc so important to get the right era.

Not experienced enough cars to know where to start looking really.

Many Steering Wheels do have the Horn Button in the centre but the problem is getting a wire (or 2) through the column to it !!

The MKI Minis were like this. They had a collector ring in the Column and the very top part was hollow to get the wire up through it. The return path was down through the bearings in the rack - not very smart I think.

None the less, if you could do this one way or another, have a look at the 1989 model Suzuki Swift Stalks, they are a quality unit that has a nice feel to them and all the right features.

I can't find a swift one before 1999, when it had the lights on the stalk, which I don't want.

I'm looking at Ford as they still have the lights on a switch, found a transit stalk with the horn on the end.

The Mondeo had an info button on the end of the indicator stalk as well, could use that as the horn instead.

Cheers for those suggestions and may well be worth following up on.

Unfortunately for an old bastard like me, who's stuck in their ways, the European Stalks (and late English types) are 'reversed' with the Indicator Switch on the wrong side !!

I'd never get used to it (my Dad's Escort drove me around the bend).

It's a 1989 Rover Mini! I might do that... will have have a scout of some scrap yards! I've also been put in contact with these:

Elta Automotive Ltd
27 Roman Way

Coleshill

B46 1HQ
+44 (0)1675 466 999

Who supply Lucas switches (SQB189) that are apparently the right sort of quality, we'll see! And also I have a suspicion they might be closer to £50 or £100...

then send them back to the seller. until they can provide goods fit for purpose.

I will do this in future! It's very annoying when I must drive my mini day to day, putting up with no indicator haha!

Thank you.
