Engine Size Change

I recently purchased a car that has had a 1275 fitted into it. However the logbook still states it has a smaller capacity. Do I need to change this on the v5? The car is tax exempt so difference in road tax rate doesn't apply. I have declared it to my insurance and they have declared it as a modification. My certificate states 'Austin mini' with he smaller capacity, but under 'modifications' it states the new engine and cc.
Any help appreciated. Thanks.

OP a little research beforehand may save you grief - late engines had their numbers stamped directly into the block rather than the riveted plate common to earlier models the stamping wasn't exactly "deep" so can be mostly obscured by a coat of paint- if your 1275 doesn't have holes for the rivets then that may be a clue....
I'm no expert on the topic so doubtless the better informed will be along soon but I gather that it's conceivable that if spotted your emissions could be checked from the age of the engine / engine number - so if you're running for the sake of argument an spi engine later converted to carb and running without a cat then you may have emissions problems come MOT time....
Solution if this is the case is simple - put a new engine number on, plate, stamps and rivets won't cost much more than £20 all in and the correct format engine number to age the engine appropriately can be found online.......
Note this was 3rd hand info when I swapped an ex spi engine into my car - can't swear it's correct but my engine now sports the number of the car's old 1275 that sit's in the garage freshly rebuilt waiting it's time.....

Good luck! When I tried to do this I was told that I would need a receipt from the garage that fitted the replacement engine, or an inspection report from an independent specialist.
Without either of those they wouldn't let me update the logbook.

Changes to engine details for historic vehicles:-
DVLA have confirmed that it is no longer be necessary for keepers of vehicles in the Historic class – tax exempt -- to provide documentary evidence to support an engine change notification. (18/02/2011). This was agreed due to the potential difficulties in providing supporting evidence/documentation for old/scrap replacement engines for historic/classic cars and also due to the fact that they are not taxed based on engine size/capacity in any case.
The FHBVC gained this valuable exemption from DVLA back in 2011.
