Hi all.

I am restoring a 1997 LHD mini MPI, I have changed a lot of panels, even the scuttle (obviously as they all rot there)  The thing is, I don't remember seeing the VIN number stamped anywhere on the body !

Where should it be ?

Thanks

Pete.

If you've still got the old scuttle look in the rain channel about a third of the way along from the left. That's where it's stamped on mine (91 but RHD)

No, that's gone, but I don't remember seeing it there, and I was prodding around that area for a long time wondering should I renew it or repair it.

Were the any signs the scuttle had been replaced previously - or repaired in that area?

No, scuttle had never been changed, it was all orginal rust.

I've seen pictures on the internet of a plate on the front slam panel, in front of the little radiator, that's long gone too, and again, I don't remember seeing it there.

Does anyone make these plates ??

MPI: VIN plate should be pop riveted to the offside inner wing by the ECU.

As Panky pointed out Vin number should have been stamped into the bonnet gutter, & it will also be etched on the window glass.

Minimail do replacement VIN plates https://www.minimail...sis-vin-plates/

Yeah the VIN is in the scuttle, and the body number is on the slam panel between the bonnet lock and the top radiator bracket.

Mine have also been lost, so I am going to remake them using some die punches. I might sell the body number plates if anyone would be interested...

If they look identical to the originals and the price was right I'd be interested!
