So I purchased a 1275 A+ block that I am rebuilding.  I'm a little, actually, a lot, confused on the flywheel and clutch.  Are the flywheels the same for the 180mm/190mm clutches?  Are they interchangeable?  Are the carb 1275 flywheel and clutches interchangeable with the SPI/MPI models?

Thanks to all in advance

Terry

two types. pre verto and verto.

verto can run either size plate- but if used best to keep the same size due to wear and uneven surface. not an issue if it is refaced or new. make sure that they are a balanced pair.

What year is the engine from? If you remove the clutch friction plate and measure its diameter and go from there.

Thanks, I appreciate the replies.  I'm not sure of the year since I bought it as just a plain A+ block and I got the flywheel and clutch from the same source.  It will need a new clutch and I wasn't sure if 180/190 were interchangeable.  I will measure it though.  Any advantage to going with the 190mm?

Thanks again

You can use a pre-Verto flywheel and clutch and many prefer this set-up. It is easier to lighten a pre-Verto.

Unless you are going to be putting out a very high torque/power figure, the 180 mm clutch seems to be fine. After all, it is what the Cooper 'S' had back when it was new and they went fine.

If you go pre-Verto the starter ring and starter motor are different and a remote starter solenoid is needed.

advantage. sure it can handle more torque, if you are not charging the engine then not really needed.

if you are buying all new fly and cluch assy then go for it if you want.
