Shame if thats it - with all its faults ~I still think it is one of the better of whats on offer for car buffs

  • Car SOS - Half hours telly spread over an hour with silly set pieces - the "steal", and Tim's unconvincing and embarrassing  barter sketches
  •
  • For the Love of Cars - both blokes you would like as mates - too  light on tech and restoration
  •
  • The Classic Car show - Jodi Kidd (woof woof !!`) and Quentin Wilson... Lovely cars , exclusive,  and everything I don't like about Goodwood Snobbery. Very creepy on sofa chemistry between them...
  •
  • Wheeler Dealers - new and old - its all been said here before
  •
  • Goblin Garage - No !
  •
  • Top Gear - No, No and Thrice No
  •
  • Chasing cars and all the American stuff.... with such a fantastic story to tell why can't americans produce better for the classic car enthusiast - surely the muscle cars and 50's to 70's cars deserve better coverage..
Have I missed anything ??

Please do feel free to add to or disagree with my list

All that said, I would rather watch any of the above over gardening/ property and relocation programmes which I am sure if you went on builders/estate agents and property developer chat site would be slagged off too.

I’ll feel free to disagree Matt!

Car SOS - by far the best programme presented by the bloke who actually does the work (fuzz). Good back story and tim shaws buggering about works as people talk about it. As irritating as it might be it’s a bit of filler for the non car person who is watching.

For the love of cars- started well but trailed off for me. Glenister was absolutely pointless and had as much interest in classic cars as a wombat. Ant worked out there maybe a career in tv and went after it. The last series was pants.

Classic car show- I thought it was an excellent series, clearly had a big budget which would have needed massive viewing figures to command a second series. Unsure as to whether there is.

Wheeler dealers - agreed

Goblin - definitely no

I’ve watched the fantom / bitching and all the others but they all a bit too formulaic for my liking. Fast&loud is just one long advert.

Chasing classic cars, for me, is the one American show that bucks the trend and is consistently good.

That’s my ten’pennath......one mans noise is another mans music as they say!

Not really the same tech programme, but I'm a sucker for street outlaws

Yeah Im with you on that one, its the same every week just different bitching but for some reason its always in my record schedule :)

Hardly illegal public street racing, what with all the trailers and flood lights...

I don't think we do disagree. I like sos (and all the others really) - just that any tv show on a persons "specialist subject" will be under the viewers microscope, Fuzz really is a skilled mechanic and I'm happy to put up with the niggles us geeks see  in most TV programmes that focus on cars.....

though I  lost interest in TG before the new presenters and hope it will mature into being a different motoring mag of interest to for the general motoriing public  because  cars new and old and  - like them or not are currently a big part of our lives and landscape of the country.

PS - Grid Girls - yes or no ??

Even the testing is now done on a drag track. Farmtruck is the only 'streetracer'

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Classic Car Rescue with that charmer Bernie Fineman and Mario Pacione.

Now you come to mention Bernie... heres a story

He and his car vandal  chum were at the speed trials here in Brighton a few years ago......

they were allowed in the VIP hospitality/viewing area he took great delight in swearing very loudly constantly (full on F, C,W etc etc)  loudly adjacent to guests of the sponsors and children (mine included as I am lucky enough to be invited every year since 1985) .

I politely asked him to tone it down as he probably didn't realise he was offending guests and children - spoiling a family day I look forward to...

I got the response you would imagine .

However good or bad - I won't be tuning in to anything with him in it

Best

Matt - Brighton

That's a shame to hear, Matt.  Although Classic Car Rescue was utterly awful (as was Chop Shop...), I'd always heard that Mr Fineman was a genuine chap away from the cameras and the effing and jeffing was more for effect than anything else.

I work in the industry and do get some insider knowledge, although I've personally never met any of the people in question.

Yes , I was disappointed ... perhaps he was having a bad day (we all do have them)  or the excitement  of it all was too much.

Last year at L2B saw Ed China and he is a fine ambassador for the classic car scene

I am wrong to pass a judgement on someone I only encountered for a few moments based on one  incident -and  on reflection to post it too

it just spoilt a family day out and celebrity or not.... his language was inappropriate.

All the best

Matt

One that I really used to enjoy watching was victory by design with Alain de Cadenet.
It was on one of the discovery channels I think and although he didnt renovate cars, he took out and actually drove the old cars like they were designed to do, giving good history about the cars too.
Used to have a good variety on. Not seen it for long time tho.

I think you've every right matt, just because his sorry ass has been on (albeit poor) tv programme doesn't give him the right to eff&jeff in front of kids. Can't say his behavior surprised me though, after all as his programme proved beyond all reasonable doubt.....you can't polish a turd..... :proud:

I've started watching a little of Iron Resurrection on Discovery which looks to be good stuff. No excessive drama involved and they seem to focus on the cars themselves.

One I'd really recommend watching is American Hot Rod. Based on the late Boyd Coddington's shop. It really delved into the pure art of putting cars together and it was really interesting to learn more about the people working there. Not shown on TV anymore but probably available online.

Agreed American Hot Rod is ace - yeah some parts are dramatised but it goes into detail over 3 episodes of a build, showing the good stuff, not the arsing about trying to negotiate. Done some pretty cool projects, and some very skilled craftsman featured on it.

First watched it 10 years ago, really sparked my mind off for design.

All  3/4 series are on youtube :)
