Hi all,

Been having problems lately with my engine. would just die while idling, very sluggish, erratic with the throttle open etc.

Decided I'd just go for a full Carb rebuild to see if that sorts it out.

Am running a 998 series A from 1976, completely unmodified.  Carb is a waxstat type HS4.

Needle doesnt look like it needs replacing, but suppose i wanted to anyway, what would be a good needle to go for? I'd like to go for a stage 1 upgrade sometime in the not too distance future, so should I get a needle geared towards that? Or will my performance suffer until a stage 1 kit is installed?

Worth pointing out that this car is for casual road use, not any kind of racing or performance oriented use.

For a standard engine you should fit the standard needle.

When you have it off for rebuild check the throttle spindle and bushes for wear, this could cause erratic idle.

Only change the needle when you upgrade to stage one.

Thanks for the reply guys! How would I know what the right needle to get for my car would be? There are just so many options out there.

As far as I can tell the current needle is in good condition.
