Just got a Paul Smith blue 1999

MPI engine 1275

seems to run mostly well but on gentle acceleration it gives a bit of seemingly a miss fire soon as you give it a bit more throttle its clear all the way. could cause a kangaroo if not careful

total mileage is 74.5k car has only done 500 miles in the past 4 years before that it sat for app 10 years.

was going to put some injection cleaner in see if this helps.

My first mpi so on a learning curve with this engine.

car was serviced before I picked it up oils nice and clean, new plugs.

she gets up to heat a ok and exhaust smells nice not overly rich for sure

injector cleaner put in and she seems a little better but only done 6 miles on it.

This is an MPi I presume, so the temp sensor is in the thermostat sandwich. It could still stand to be replaced.

With sitting for so long, I would check the rubber hoses or really just replace them. I would also clean the IAC valve on the side of the inlet manifold.

Honestly try to find someone with a reader. Problems like this are solved in 5 minutes with a reader, either it gives you a code or you can see the if value of one of the sensors is way out of whack. £200 to buy it yourself but there is a big thread on here with people saying they will lend theirs out, I have one but my local garage had something universal that worked too, worth looking into turns a big job into smaller one

I'd go with the IAC valve first. Have done a few now and has made a big difference to smooth running and better idle.

Thanks for the replies and ideas

now have driven it for 800 miles or so injection cleaner didn't make a difference guy who had it changed leads but he said it didn't make a difference.

gives good mpg would say near as dam it the top stated 43 mpg

uses a little water rad cap rubber seal looks a bit duff probably the original cap don't see any typical H/gasket problems.

Once weather breaks will get into the ideas

thanks again
