Hi all,

I'm rebuilding the front end of my MPI, A panels, wings and front panel.

I've got the doors on in the correct position.

I've clamped the A panels on in their correct position.

The bonnet is also on, but when i try to aligne the wings and front panel up, they just don't want to fit. I either have a stagered wheel arch, or the top of the wings are 2 cms away from the bonnet.

All panels are genuine except for the front panel which is magnum, but the problem isn't with that panel, (not yet anyway)

Any ideas ?????

Thanks

Pete.

Not sure what year you are working with but on my mk2 I fitted inner and outer a panels to get correct door alignment, then fitted front subframe, front panel and bonnet. Using the scuttle to align bonnet and bonnet to align front panel, then I fitted the wings which needed a little bending and pulling to fit. I only assembled with self tappers so I could take them off and then spotweld front panel to wings off the car. Hope this helps.

Didn't think about the front subframe.

When did you put the A panels on ? before, after or at the same time as the wings ?

I finsihe dmine last week. I put the front panel on first, bolting it to the front subframe (the car was supported by the subframe, which had new rubber mounts all round)

then I put the wings on getting them aas tight to the scuttle as possible, then after clamping them down, put the A-panels and clamped the wing to front panel.

Took a lot of tweaking but was relativley easy

Subframe should be on, front spacers fitted as required (age depending) then fit front panel loosely, A panel, wings then bonnet. Now play around with everything.

I wanted to put the front subframe in last night, but couldn't find one of the tower bolts and rubber :-(

I spent all evening looking for it. Gave up at 10pm and ordered a new one .

How do you decide how many spacers should be used on the front mounts ?

I had spacers when I ripped off the old front panel. I think I'll leave everything loose as Neil suggested and then decide.

I  have another question about the fuel tank, but will start a new thread.

If its a solidly mounted car then its shims and none maybe needed at all. Post 76 you will tear drop mounts and these will then position your subbie. Either that or the solid variety

Another question,

Should the car be sat on it's wheels before the front end is put on ? so that all the subframe rubbers are squashed in to place before it's all welded on ?

Pete.
