I've just been reading through the various restoration/rebuild projects and realized that there are three 1960's of almost the same construction dates in the US, in fact so close they probably arrived in the USA on the same boat! So that got me thinking, How many 1960 mini's are still out there? Mine is dated as a 7th March car and is well on the way to being finished some time this year after being in bits and stored since the 70's in the San Francisco bay area.

Very few now and not many of those in 'as original' condition.

The Mk.1 cars are the most iconic of all Minis and a nice 850 is very special now.

When one drives a classic Mini it is hard to remember that it was 60 years ago that the detailed design was being finalised. Back then no-one would have dreamed that this little car would go on to be a symbol of the sixties and become so valuable.

I just found a '64 Austin Cooper tucked away in a shop... it looks mostly original and appears to have been an actual American Market Mini...  Already have a gentlemen's agreement with deposit made.  Picking it up on March 5th.  I have a restoration project in work, but will be starting the '64 afterwards...

Worked on an all original 850 deluxe a few months back, it charmed me no end

I am currently doing a total restoration of a 1964 850. I keep on being advised to fit a 998 Cooper engine as it is a period mod., but I intend to build it with its original 850 engine. The only big mod will be dry suspension. Interestingly it was registered just 4 weeks before my Cooper 'S'.

Though hydrolastic wasn't fitted until 1965.

Hydro was introduced in Sept 1964. I bought a new 998 Cooper in June 1964 and it was dry.

Same with me, my '64 was dry. Thanks.

Sold this to a customer years ago before realizing what it was... April 1960 deluxe. I mainly focus on mk3+ here, but finally come full circle and painting it as we speak.

I have a July built 1960 cherry red Deluxe. Pre recessed windscreen, has a straight wand gear stick and still has its unvented flat sills. It has had a bit of work and received a front panel with the brake cooling shortened apron sadly at some point in its life. The interior is original too!

My 1960 is (probably) one of the most modified ones out there, non standard colour / interior / engine / wheels / body size / etc etc, in fact I'm trying to think what is standard on it !, all done back in the late 60's when the car was coming up to 10 years old (not by me) you could never put it back to standard

Yo Minimans! Have an April 1960 Barnfind LHD project roller right down the street in Walnut Creek. Has a couple 1959 parts on it such as the front Valance & some single hole glass. Going to be available on MiniGuy.com very soon. Have a 1960 850 takeout drivetrain from a running car to go with. Has 2 original mini fin drums on it & brass hinges too. Original early seat frames. Really solid except parked on dirt & floors / boot have rot, but sills n door frames good so it wont fold up

Also have a 1960 ex autocross car that is in need of work - will never be an original 1960 850 again. Too beat up from the tree n rusty. Luckily have a replacement roof that you gave me a couple years ago. Thanks again.

Again, it just makes me wonder why so many 1960 mini's have survived in this area? Maybe there were just a lot imported? I have had 5 1960 cars pass through my shop over the years but the rest were of different years.
