Hi,
Weve taken apart our 67 engine and refurbed it and just about to start the process of rebuilding it. Weve either sandblasted or just stripped the paint on most of the parts but Im worried theyll start rusting from the inside of the engine is I dont cover them with engine paint.
So do I
1) leave them as bare metal, assemble the engine and then paint the whole thing when its fully assembled.
OR
2) paint each part individually and reassemble the painted parts of the engine?

As I said its a 67 Mk1 and were hoping to keep it original as possible.
Cheers,
Ben

first thing i would do it remove all the oil way and water plugs and bungs and get all the oil and waterways clear of sand.

sand blasting is the last thing i would have used.

after making sure all the oilways are spotless i would then paint the block up and then fit new plugs etc.

No dont worry we only blasted piece on the outside like pulleys and fans the rest has been paint stripped :)

So should we paint each individual part (like pulleys, fans, plates) and then assemble each part?

I like to paint everything seperate. When you remove parts later ( you will, its the law :P ) you won't have the paint cracking or chipping.

Yes I think we’re going go for that option. Thanks for the advice :)
