Just a query really.

I saw one of these at the mini fair, with a Rover sticker on it and I have to say I had never seen one like it before.

Any idea why Rovers repair panel was different than the actual original panel?

LOoks like a dodgy over floor repair rather than a proper panel.

Are you sure that is a Mini panel, or even a Rover panel?

In my experience repair panels were always cut from the larger panel, ie a rear floor would be cut from a complete floor, and meant to replace a rusted or damaged section.

Back in the bad old days there seemed to be panels around that were knocked up by anybody as bodge panels to cover a rusty floor without cutting out the rubbish  as suggested by dishipfacta. Not what I would call a proper repair panel. I'm surprised they are marketed by respected suppliers as they only encourage bad workmanship. I hope you didn't buy it.

No never bought it, I was just intrigued as it had a Rover sticker on it and it had the spaces between the ridges which I had never saw before.

When I restored my mk2 cooper the first time it was about 1986, I used one of those panels because it was either that one or a completely flat one from another supplier, I had to cut the inner sill section off and make my own inner sills as no one at the time did proper full length inner sills, which is why I have restored the car a second time and used a full m machine floor as the panels available now are far better, we are spoilt for choice really

Here is a pic after it was cut out

That panel enables you to repair the rear floor up to the heelboard and AROUND the companion bin. Fwd of that you can replace the inner sill as well.

It looks really bad and i wonder if its a hooky copy?? Someone peeled off original Rover labels or they were just a crap panel.

Ok I have been doing a bit more research into this, basically cause I am a sad individual, and it turns out Rover also sold weird front floor repair panels and also strange sills.

Looking at the drivers side floor pan it appears that they must originally date from the Mini remote change days as it has the cutout for the bulge.

In saying that they must have supplied them right up until the end as some of the panels I have attached have MG Rover stickers on them.

Yes totally legit panels you could get from the dealer back in the day. Don't forget they were just normal cars that had to get through MOTs as cheaply as possible in most cases. This meant a quick chop and weld in around the bins etc. Why rover didn't use the original tooling I'm not sure , but yeah these quarter floors were readily available at the time from Rover in the 90s
Much better bits available now though!

Just a word of warning there is some dodgy people about reprinting these labels off and passing panels on as genuine,I drove to south Hampton to pick up some wings up they were NOT
