been watching the star man stream of the car. think it is fairly well stripped out. wound not be surprised if it was actually a styling model.

It's his car but the authorities wouldn't allow it up there unless the batteries and transmission were stripped out, the glass was supposed to have gone too.

Best publicity stunt - EVER.

I'm late to the show here but did watch it all the same.

Well done Space-X and Congratulations to Mr. Musk.

Shame about them loosing that last stage, but given what it was overall, I can't see it as anything other than successful, though there's still things to be learnt :shades:

Here's looking to the future with this and let's see what it brings us.

The second stage did re-ignite, after about six hours, and Starman has been on his way since then. Apparently he is going further than expected - all the way to the asteroid belt,

So the 'live' update that's running on You tube is just a recording of the first few hours, maybe we'll see more as the batteries were estimated to last about twelve hours.

The thing is the car part could still fail if after the cruise phase the engine will not reignite for the final phase. Hopefully that will not happen and the little red Tesla will carry on with its epic journey.

The biggest thing it has proven is the heavy lift part will work. I think the crunch for Musk will be when they go full weight for a payload. That will be the indicator for how successful this will be and how far this will actually go. Signs are good and fair shout for doing this.

Deeply impressive and as they say “ it’s the future of space exploration”

The resuability of the boosters is a fantastic achievement especially as they land and not crash into the see as per the old shuttle boosters. Yes they were reused but certainly not to the same extent as the Space X units. Cost is everything and keeping it as cheap and reliable is the key.

I am sure a lot of people further up the food chain will be keeping a serious eye on this as a viable prospect for us as mankind to actually go that bit further than the moon. I really hope to see a Mars landing in my lifetime.

You might get lucky, Elon says that his hopes are "to die on Mars and not from the impact".  So, you might get to see a Mars landing.  However, I hope he also take care of his people along the way. He is a workaholic and his expectations are that for his workers to be that same way. Enthusiasm about doing something new and different can only take you so far for so long.  People also have to have a life. Been there, done that and new became old and antiquated.
