Can anyone recommend a good alternative to Dynamat?

I will be using a felt sound-proofing system but I would like to use something similar to Dynamat, but do not want to pay the price for it! :) (saving for a house is my priority at the minute!)

thanks in advance

Try this stuff

https://www.ebay.co....872.m2749.l2649

Sticks like **** to a blanket when warmed slightly and gives a nice finish.

This is the size of each mat supplied and you get ten

Not used it myself but the sticky flashing tape  you can get from Screwfix (just checked the screw fix website)  for £23  is highly recommended in VW circles.

Believe me... T2 and T3 VW panel vans can be noisy !

I used silent coat on mine, makes the car a lot quieter.  I've used the flashing tape before it helps but when it gets hot in the car it melts...

Mine comes from my paint supplier and is available in larger sheets than the above.

It's also a lot cheaper than Dynamat and does the job nicely.

You will need a hot air gun to allow it to form to the grooves in the floor

4 sheets did this floor

Ill try and find out if there is a brand on the box tomorrow. If not, ill ask my paint supplier if you are interested

Cheers

Ben

It's annoying as there used to be a supplier on Ebay that sold ten 40cm x 50 cm sheets for £20, twice the size as the ones I recently got for the Mini

How many do you think I would need to cover the whole car?

The mats I got are 50cm x 20 cm so a bit of measuring to do. A pack is 1 square metre.

I made my mini a lot more silent and only spent 30 euro.
Fitted small sheets ( 15x10 cm) under the bonnet, on the parcel shelf, boot floor and Passenger Seat back. Used the cheapest panel deadning i could find (the black asfalt kinda stuff)

Fitted sound absorbing material ( 1m x 20 cm) behind the dash, facing the engine
30x30 in the boot
2x a 20x 30 piece in the companion bins.
The car was so much more civil inside!

I ve also put sticky aluminium sheet over all the open holes in the firewall.

remember folks you do not need to cover the whole car. you dont need to cover the whole panel. you only need to add small amounts to each panel to kill the noise.reading the instructions are good.

or get down to homebase/B&Q/Bunnings and get some Flashband.

I did the inside of my doors last year. One piece right in the middle 30x30cm and reduced the clunkiness of the door when slamming them closed.

silent coat in mine with some closed cell foam over the top (doesn't absorb water). Doing the same in the pickup. Seems to have dampened down the bangs and clatters
