I fitted these philips zes h4 led bulbs about a year ago in my mini. They have a reversable heatsink instead of a fan ans leds that try to replicate the positions of the dipped and main beam filaments. Give a perfect cut of in my very old lucas h4 headlamps.

They look interesting, are they any brighter and where did you get them from?

Horizon sell them I believe

Wow, they're not cheap :ohno:

I didn't pay that sort of price for them, I bought them on ebay for around £25, sold as philips zes chipset but probably chinese copy. Had run 100/140 watt halogens for years in the same lucas headlamps, these gave a lot of light but very yellow by modern standards and appeared slow to change from main to dipped beam as the filament slowly cooled. Tried replacing them with philips racing bulbs- similar to night breakers, they were rubbish compared with the 100/140's, gave a whiter light but not much spread of light and were poor on main beam.
Replaced those with the cheap chinese philips zes leds, great spread of light and very white, probably whiter than the factory fit leds on my suzuki. The spread of light isn't as 'even' as my factory fit leds, but thats probably down to the lucas headlamp lenses, the 'unevenness' in the light was there with the halogens too.
The led bulbs can be rotated in their bases to fine tune the beam image. Each bulb does have a small control unit to operate it, I did initially fit it all inside the headlamp bowl, but moved it to outside the bowl as I was concerned about heat. They are plug and play, so no cutting wiring required, so far I've been very pleased with them.

I replaced my entire headlight for some 7" LED units and they are fantastic!

I'm looking into led replacement headlights... Which ones do you have?

dont waste your money into this illegal lights, they blind other drivers.

The LEDs have a blue color and this reduces the visibility in the night.

spend the money in a propper ajustment of your orignial lamps and enjoy the cheap bulps.

Fitting either HID or LED headlights to a Mini in the UK is illegal under the Motor Vehicle Lighting Regulations, and likely under some EU Type Approval Regulations, violation of which is almost certain to have a far higher penalty. HID and LED headlights have to be specifically type approved on the type of car to which they will be fitted, and that effectively means only new cars. The required headlight wipe/wash system is also part of the approval, and despite that they are a danger to others anyway, when coming over a rise for instance, when some thumping great Chelsea Tractor blasts some unfortunate's eyes with not only too much light, but light with a high UV content.

No-one actually needs LED headlights, and they are not the correct solution to the problem.

If your car pre-dates EU type approval regs can you even be done for violating them??

Also found out not all factory LED headlights require a wash system, only if the dipped beam exceeds 2000 lumen.

My Leon FR has LED headlights, but no headlight washers.
