Dear All,

 

How do you 'match' an amp to speakers.?

 

I've read up but still slightly confused.

 

My speakers are 25w and 45w rms.

 

When shopping for an amp (2 channel), they list specs. like so: example: 2 x 70w @ 4 ohm.

 

What does 2 x 70w actually mean? 2 speakers (L&R) at 70w rms, or as most are 4 speaker ready, is 70w the total.? But  which total?

 

(25w + 25w) front & (45w + 45w) rear

 

or

 

(25w + 45w) Right & (25w + 45w) Left.

 

And "they" suggest, going for 50% higher amp than speaker RMS.......

yes greater amp power that speaker power.

 

most speaker distortion coms from over driving the speaker with a low power amp.

 

if it is 70x2 then you will not be running 4 speakers.

 

ok links to the speakers you have as it aint just about the RMS figure.
