I've been trying all day to get my brake hoses off my front brakes on my 98 mpi but to no avail. Want to change callipers. Have been trying spanners and vice grips but no luck.

It is right/tight left/loose on them right? Any advice most appreciated!

Anticlockwise. Odd that they're not coming undone! usually having the copper washers allows an easier crack.

Cut Them and use a socket.
There are special brake pipe wrenches for the steel lines too. Id replace those too anyway on a car of that age.

some are chuffing tight, but good grips and tap them with a hammer works

Yeah thats my back up plan to take off the hose completely, but Ive heard changing the front brake hoses is a pain in the ass?

Will try again today with some gentle persuasion.

But I guess if the hose is that rusted up the internal condition of the rubber will be past its best too? For peace of mind and a few quid I'd be tempted to bite the bullet and replace the old hose.

Yeah seems so. I'm literally rounding the nut now...

Any recommendations on tutorials on changing flexi hoses? Where is the best access to the bolt on the far side of the sub frame?

Cheers for the help lads!

Don't forget you will have to tighten these hoses onto the replacement items. If they are that difficult to remove then the same applies to tighten. Bin them and buy new quality hoses.

Ended up brining them to my local mini garage and had them changed. Front right disk/brake are rubbing now when turning corners...
