I am having difficulty engaging the linkage between the door handle and the actual locking mechanism.

Both parts are new.

I can work out exactly what needs doing but space is stopping me doing the actual linkage.

Does anyone know if there is a sort of 'trick of the trade' that I need to know about?

Hello,

Thanks for your reply.

I have the old parts and as a result I am able to see how the linkage fits together. I have fitted the new ones to the car.

I can locate the operating lever to the lock 'toggle bar mechanism' but wondering exactly how to 'press them together' in such a restricted space.

I do have all the new parts. They are actually fitted to the door. All that is needed is advice on how to complete the connection of the linkage.

It is the difficult confines that is the problem and I wonder if someone had learned a 'method'.

I have now fitted the linkage.

Method used was to set the toggling bar in the horizontal position and locate the handle lever in position against it by hand.

Place a12 inch long piece of half inch round wood dowel against the lever as it sits up against the lock toggle bar.

Give the dowel a single 'firm; tap with a hammer.

This 'pops' the lever arm fully onto the operating bar of the lock.
