The only place I've ever broken driveshafts is in autotesting. Nothing hou need to worry about on the road. A fast road mini doesnt exist, only not so slow ones. ;)

Personally, while there are up-rated shafts available, I've always liked to use standard drive shafts as they are (usually) the weakest part of the final Drive Train, and being external, are easier and much cheaper to change than anything else in the Drive Chain (and I have broken a few).

Hi all,

i stumbled on a question of what drive shaft will fit the KAD 16V engine with their 4speed gearbox?

im planing on kad engine build so i would greatly apreciate it if any of you can help.

i have 1977 austin mini if thats helps in any way.

thanks in advance, Jurij

As you will have plenty of power realistically you have 2 choices

Diff out put flange; Either hardy spicer or pot joint

Drive shaft; Cooper S type for hardy spicer or pot joint type

The Cooper S type shafts are available upgraded, the pot joint type are currently not available upgraded.

Ultimately the choice is yours, I like the hardy spicer setup as like me they are agricultural, most racers and rally Minis use them,

PM me if you want a chat about them.

both types are readily available uprated. but not really needed. HS coupling are worse at transmitting power than Pots but HS are easier to separate for road side engine out sessions.

for a road car even a KAD one I would stick with standard.

Pot joints for me every time.
Never broke one in 14 years. Cheap as chips.
I've broke loads of hardy spicer couplings. Amd Cooper s shafts.

Nick. My metro. Can u remember if the shafts were jkd. Or was that a myth. Or standard. Again the shafts have been great. No breakages.

i was never 100% sure they looked standard to me.
