Not really a problem more of an enquiry...

Whilst my Mini is currently off the road, I keep having ideas of where to mount the battery...

Im thinking of mounting it on the floor, in a proper box, but installed where the seat squab is.... kind of cut out a section of the seat bottom and install the battery in a box there....

How much strength (if any) is there in the seat bottom/squab....

Iv searched the the forum for my answer but just not finding anything...

Im OK with rewiring where the main battery positive cable will be rerouted as am quite competent with wiring and electrics...

Any suggestions good or bad welcome, but dont want anything like - " I installed it this way in my rally car... " Im not building a rally car, Im just relocating the battery for a planned ICE install....

You can reinforce whatever area you want to use, I've considered putting it in the companion bin....you can buy smaller and much lighter batteries today that will fit anywhere.

You may need some spreader plates. But your biggest issue is making a safe pass through any panel.

I used to mount them behind the passenger seat in cars I used for track days etc.

in minis I usually removed the rear seats and the metal work under the rear seat and then there was plenty room.

Minivan and Pickup have the battery on the floor behind drivers seat and Mini Traveller/Countryman/Estate have battery underneath the back seat on the RH side, so should be no problem.

One of the reasons the battery was put in the boot was to even up the weight distribution front to back, besides of course that there is no room under the bonnet.

So mounting it behind - say - the drivers seat, in a box, removing the tinware where needed isn't a problem.... Good... :)

Also passing the cable through panels etc... also aint a problem either..

Im planning on removing the entire bootfloor and just basically sheeting it over so its flat...

Im also planning on relocating the filler neck for the fuel tank too and removing the filler cap from external to internal and smoothing that over...
