This year i plan to complete a lot of work. Thinking ahead I have a turbo engine complete but its a little tired. Checked the bores already and its at the point of wanting a re bore. Can anyone offer advice on general costs for the work required? Re bore and new pistons? any other recommendations of work that should be done at the same time? Money is an issue as the resto work on the shell is costing a fortune....

What are you wanting out of the engine when it's done? There's no need to do anything special unless you're looking for 130+ bhp, quoting a rough figure. Proper refurbishment is important in any case.

If our engine is tired, youll want to factor in potential crank grinding, de-gunk, cylinder boring, pistons, cam bearings, oil pump, water pump, cylinder head work, turbo, oil feed, water feed, gearbox refurb, new clutch to take the power, carb set up, new gaskets etc. It isnt cheap!

For only a rebore:
Cost of pistons
180 euro for bore+hone (+60 in my case)
30 euro to press the pistons of the rode
20 euro for the gas bottle to heat the conrods to put new pistons on
Gasket set

As a minimum I d change the oil pump too
And I would check bearing clearances while 'down there'.

As per the 3 above

By the time it needs a rebore most other wearable parts are tired too.

The first question has to be;  Are you planning on it as a Turbo unit ?

There are so many options, depending on what you want to achieve, your budget, how good the original unit is, any other parts you may have and then any 'upgrades' on top.
