Newly acquired MK2 Golf cl with 72000 miles genuine unmolested example ebay find.

Brought this project a few days ago and im happy to say welding wise it dont need alot few bits here and there, All solid in usual MK2 golf rot spots.

Photos from after delivery to me, very dirty manky looking.

Inside pics again dirty but rust free.

Removed a few bits and started giving the inside a bath, no after pics.

Removed remains of old front wings and started removal of waxoil.

First bit of rust, reckon it might clean up.

Internal floor flooded in waxoil but its certainly done a good job on this shell.

Started removing factory soundproofing, it has gone brittle anyway so will just use some silent coat.

Managed to get a few hours on the golf again today, I got a bit done.

 

Photo's of rear boot space after it was cleaned and dry.

 

 

 

 

Removed sound proofing from drivers side floor pans, It seemed alot harder this side. Just needs residue cleaning off with some petrol.

 

 

 

 

Started removing factory underseal.

Rot found so far, ive gone round the mk2 with a screwdriver and these were the only soft spots in the factory underseal.

Worst of the rot is the battery tray think this might be down to battery leak which in turn took the paint of this area.

Bit of surface on drivers inner chassis leg, this should clean up.

Yep sold the red shell already this silver one is in 10 times better shape.

Cool fair enough, what's your plans for this one, once the rust is all sorted? modded or standard..

Slightly modified, big bumpers respray etc, just going to see where it takes me.  Going to to strip underside for piece of mind and raptor it all black, I dont think ill find any more rot but we will see what happens. Going to try keep on top of this thread and on top of restoration the red one spiraled out of control really.

I like the sound of that, it will make a great little car from the sounds of it and you have a nice solid base really to start from, I have always loved the look of a MK2 but never bitten the bullet and bought one

The red shell has now gone to it new owner. Ive managed to get the silver golf in garage and hopefully i can crack on in the evening a bit now.

Engine removed.

A bit More progress, It's a bit slow at the moment. Ive found no more rot so far, shell seems to good to be true.

 

Stripped rubber undercoat passenger front inner arch.

 

Bare metaled passenger front inner arch.

 

Stripped more parts from the engine bay and started the task of removing all the factory seam sealer.

 

Snow in garage, came in under the door.

Nice progress, on this its a great looking mk2 shell this.

Front subframe removed all the bolts holding It up undone nicely.

Passenger front inner wing had rubber undercoat removed and back to bare metal.

More rubber undercoat removal in the engine bay front bulkhead area.
