If it didn't do it before the engine change, then it's not the steering rack that has suddenly decided to play up. 

 

I reckon ball joint or track rod not correctly seated when tightened up.

 

STOP driving it until it is sorted.

 

Have you lifted the front and shaken and wobbled everything to see if there is play or something loose ???

The OP said there is play in the rack(advised at not) first I'd check the wheels for play(check what's loose) in my case it was side to side play, speed wobble and wandering all over the lane

I replaced the steering rack yesterday as a couple of the replies advised (I also replaced the pinch bolt and two bushes for good measure), this fixed the speed wobble immediately. I also had the wheel alignment done today. Handling is now sharp as a pin again, exactly as it should be!

As per my posts 1 and 11, have you any explanation of why the steering wheel was off straight ?, not that that it matters now.

 

Glad you are on the straight and narrow again.
