I just had my head ground and rebuilt but I would be interested in a crank. Are you on Vancouver island as well?

Yes, I'm in Victoria.

Oh coo,l I'm up in Courtenay. Let me know if you have a 1098 crank and maybe we can work something out.

No go, unfortunately. I hadn't looked at these cranks in literally decades and had no idea what was there. All five of them are 1275, (4) 12G1505A and (1) 12G1817. If you plan on staying with the 998, it's going to be a bit of a dog if you don't open out the head chambers or swap it for an open chamber head. Not to mention the CR is probably only 8.8:1 which is a bit on the low side. I recently hopped up an old 998 with 80,000 km on it with a 12G295 head, milled 0.1" with the exhausts ported, an 1100 cam, 8% higher lift rockers, HIF38 with K&N cone and stub stack, and LCB with straight through exhaust and the transformation was huge. My local parts guy says it goes like a stock 1275 which isn't half bad.

Well thanks for checking anyways. I hope in a year or two to be able to find a 1275 for a good price. I did find a 1380 that had been machine but never put back together that was in Victoria. It didn't have a gear box or carbs mind you but as much as I would love that the guy was asking $2000 and I just can'y justify spending that since I just finished the restoration this past summer.

Now you've got me twitching. Is that 1380 still available?
