Evening all, new member here and a proud first time owner of a mini.
After purchasing a 96 mini 1275 at the weekend I quickly realised the speedo is hugely out. 30mph reads about 25mph, 50mph reads at around 40mph, 70mph reads at around 50mph etc etc.
Any advice To fix the problem would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Ryan.

change the speedo drive cogs to suit.

work out what box and final drive you have and get the correct parts.

if it is fitted with the correct then the speedo head unit may be "tired".

Slightly off topic, are mini speedo's magnetised?
Re magnetising might be needed if its the standard engine with the right gbox speedo drives for the speedo.

Hi Potatoo,

What is the maximum speed on your current speedo?

Nicklouse's solution is definitely the proper way to correct it,   but when I bought my car the speedo reading 17% too low at all speeds  (which correlates with your 30mph indicating 25mph) and I found a quick and dirty fix for it,  which corrected the speed indicated (although not the odometer).   My speed is now spot on.

In my case I think a 3.76 final drive has been fitted where originally the car would have had a 3.1,  hence the speedo reading 17% too low.
