Hi all

Just wondering if someone could help me. I have just bought a mini and it has had a significant water leak from the bottom of the two doors into the foot wells. I changed the door rubbers which made no difference. When I jet wash it water literally pours into the car from the bottom of the doors. I have today noticed that where the windows meet the door (the strip mainly) there is about a half a centimetre or more gap in the middle where water just runs straight down the window into the door itself. It looks like the doors are bowing out in the middle and I think all the water is coming in from there. It is definitely not water tight. The doors currently have no rust and Im really worried that the doors and footwells are going to rot if I dont fix it ASAP. Does anyone know why this might be and how to fix it?

Are the drain holes blocked in the bottom of the door, there should be three there.

I dont think they are blocked as water is coming from the bottom of the doors. The problem is the gap at the top and the door gaping outwards in the middle where it meets the window I think but I can check if you think this might be causing it?

Do you mean the doors weather strip has a bow in the middle MSSK2104 .

if so it is likely that replacement door skins have been fitted at some time possibly without the strengthening panel.

The water is most likely coming in through the badly sealed apertures behind the door trim. its just a case of popping the door trims off and correctly sealing the apertures.

I use foil tape personally but a quick search should give you a few ideas.

Yes that but the actual door looks like its the same so Im not sure if its the door or the strip? The doors are in really good condition though. If it is the strips is it an easy job absx2?

Have you cleaned the drain holes in the doors themselves? If your door cards are wet, that could be your problem. I had the same issue. I drilled out the hole to make it slightly bigger. Just make sure you rust proof afterwards. Hopefully that works?

The weather strips just clip in place. However if the top of the skin is bowed then you have an issue, not insurmountable but awkward to do.

If the skin is bowed out after a reskin then you have to remove the outer weather strip and gently push in the centre at the top of the skin. Now you may not get enough deflection here as the window even wound down will stop you pushing too far. This may be enough but be very careful because if you push too hard you can crease the door.

If you do not get enough deflection then it's window out time.

Got it!! As you can see, the door bows out in the middle. Its the same on the other door but not as bad.

You tend to get the bow effect from magnum door skins
As stated it can be sorted by gently bending the door skin back and refitting the weather strip

Is there a plastic weather shield behind the door card ? if not this will also let water into the car
some folk tape up the holes if one is not fitted
