id just grind it or get another Abutment plate see how that looks wonder if its off a 38 or other model

The carb is a Hif38

ive seen this problem quite a few times, as stated above use a file or grinder to relieve the metal and itll fit just fine
its because the abutment plate was designed to fit on the standard Austin rover manifolds, (alloy or cast iron) the inlet you have is an aftermarket one so it obviously just wasn't thought through very well when it was designed. iirc my dads mini has this setup and we ground that back to fit.

Are you going to clean and service the carb ?

Would be pretty tight to the bulkhead though and airbox is already tight. With just the one spacer

Yes will definitely clean and Sevice the carb. Might even have the abutment plate replated. Just trying to solve problems now so when I refit the engine everything bolts straight on .
