Hi all,

I'm having problems getting my MPI started and I've been reading about which way the HT leads go on the coil and plugs.

What is the correct sequence ?

Rover says one way, haynes say another, I've seen photos on ggogle that say something different !!!!

Thanks,

Pete.

Just found this: what is correct ???

* Bottom left on the coil pack goes to plug 1
* Bottom right on the coil pack goes to plug 2
* Top right on the coil pack goes to plug 3
* Top left on the coil pack goes goes to plug 4

Or the other way

* Bottom left on the coil pack goes to plug 4
* Bottom right on the coil pack goes to plug 1
* Top right on the coil pack goes to plug 2
* Top left on the coil pack goes goes to plug 3

In my experience Haynes Manual is correct!

I have a replacement Coil Pack on my car and, have often wondered whether there is a different sequence on the new one compared to that fitted in the factory.

Rover book says 1.2.3.4. from bottom left goin around clockwise

Haynes says 1.2.3.4 going anti clockwise

then I see things like this

Attached File  3d6696ce7139edb38f6916f24546489c6da13eed.jpg   131.55K   6 downloads

I know they are wasted spark and that means there are different combinations but which is correct ?

Pete.

The firing order is 1342 and it's a wasted spark so 1 & 4 will be on  one half of the coil pack and 3 & 2 on the other. All you have to do is get the correct pair on the correct half.

Pete once you have the car ready for the road it might be worth getting any fault codes stored on the ECU removed.

Took mine to a rolling road (one with a very good reputation) & it did run better after they had cleared the codes.

I am going to though something else in here.

I know that it is very possible to accidentally connect the wire connector onto the coil pack the wrong way round. First hand experience!! Check the wire connector is fitted in the correct orientation. The connector does have a 'key' location but if the connector is a little tired, can easily look like its on the right way, when in fact its not. Inspect it carefully making sure the key grooves in the connector plug match up with the key ridges on the coil pack.
