Sorry for the lack of updates.

I was waiting for parts to arrive but since then, I have had lots of other work to contend with.

The owner of this Mini is in no rush for completion so it has been put aside for a short while.

In other news, the engine is now not being rebuilt and instead is going back in as it is. This is because the owner is not going to be able to use the car for a while due to work but has plans for an engine build int he future possibly with a supercharger.

Ill update soon!

Ben

I have been doing a few bits and pieces the past few days and pretty soon, ill be pushing on with this to complete it.

I have added some brightwork to the front

6nkh3Pa.jpg

And made a start fitting the headlining.

Once the new felt was glued to the inside of the roof, I inserted new rods to the headlining and hung it before going around the car with clips gently tensioning it before starting to glue the edges

It's a long and painstaking job especially in this heat but it's gradually getting there. Please excuse the dusty marks on the lining, they will be cleaned off once finished.

Cheers

Ben

Looks good Ben, I feel your pain this weather. Didn't know the headlining was black in these cars.

They weren't originally. The owner has chosen to have a black headliner.

It is indeed Bronze yellow

Thanks ! I plan to buy an MK3, this is the color that I choose :)

May I ask you what is the cost of a complete paintwork there ?

It varies hugely based on how much work is needed before the paint goes on.

Hi Ben,
Great build, I own a original SA 1978GTS (that I plan on bringing to the uk next year) I did a full rebuild on it only thing I need to change is the arches back to original!

There where quite a few differences between the GT and the GTS, wheel size was 12inch with 7.5 inch discs, the drive train was taken from a cooper s and put in the clubman body, gearbox final drive is 3.44:1 they had higher performance 11stud heads with double valve springs, all had rubber come suspension. They are extremely rare (original ones) as they where only made from 1973-1979, the way to identify a GTS is by the engine number or chassis number.

If you want any photos or info ect ect feel free to message and I’ll help out where I can!

... wheel size was 12inch with 7.5 inch discs, the drive train was taken from a cooper s and put in the clubman body...

This is not true... much like the GT in the UK, they used 10" Rostyles with a booster and 7.5" discs in the early GTSs, then moving to the 12" steelies and 8.4" discs w/o the booster in the later GTSs. It never used a Cooper S drivetrain either. Rod change gearbox, close ratio gearset, pot joints instead of hardy spicer joints (I think).

Any pictures of your GTS? Would be cool to see :)

I will post the original spec sheet for the GTS, they where made with cooper S replica parts and the block was cast in SA, the boosters where removed around 75/76. I will post photos of my GTS when i get a chance later today.

but for now here is a link to it on facebook... https://www.facebook...29803676&type=3

Continuing on with the interior..

Last time I was installing the headlining but couldn't continue this morning as I was waiting for a new tin of contact adhesive so I set about cutting the parcel shelf to accept the speakers

And then the speakers. these are the ones that were originally fitted in the front

Zllamup.jpg

I then fitted the vinyl to the arch tubs and the rear 1/4 cards

UjFp12Z.jpg

Next up, I fitted the freshened up fuel tank and plumbed it in

dNHKj6H.jpg

And then installed the steering column and some of the dash

A bit sporadic I know, but I'm running out of things to do whilst waiting for the adhesive!

Finally, It did and I finished the headlining

I then started to think about the carpets, insulation and sound deadening.

Nothing is finished yet as I am assessing what needs to be trimmed and seeing how well it fits together.

I have never come across an aftermarket carpet set that fits nicely but this one seems that it will need the least amount of work.

Cheers

Ben
