Hi Guys,

The previous owner of my car (89 mini) saw fit to delete the side repeater lamps for aesthetic reasons. I wish to reinstate them. I've bought some lamps and harnesses from a MGF off eBay.

I've found where the wiring has been hacked off on the drivers side (near the servo), but I can't see any cut wires for the passenger side around the wiper motor.

I was wondering if anybody knows/would have a look where it runs from on this side. Is it from around the fuse box/wiper motor area or does it come from the headlamp area?

Thanks,

Chris.

If you are in the UK the car doesn't need side repeaters for an MOT. My 1989 car has them removed, still passed

Sorry but this is wrong. Side repeaters are legally needed for any car first used on or after 01/04/86 and are testable items for the MOT. Guess you must have just got lucky!

If not fitted they aren't tested 😉

Quite right. Clearly an item not on the car can not be tested, but the repeater will be testable (for a 1989 car) as per the MOT manual:

'Vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1986 must be fitted with one side repeater indicator on each side'

And goes on to list reasons for failure as:

'missing, insecure, obviously incorrectly
positioned or does not face to the front, rear or side as appropriate'

So the point I was making was that not having a repeater for a 1989 car would (or should) mean a failure.
