As an update i managed to fix the window winder problem. I found that the previous owner had put the long length of screw in the door mechanism which meant it caught on the bottom of the window. Cost me two bent winders but a lesson learned.

I have the really clean and fully rebuilt engine in the car now but have a few questions.the car has this solenoid for the starter system but my new starter motor has its own solenoid, how do I go about converting or is this just the wrong starter motor? Should I get a starter without a solenoid on it?

Does the A plus engine have one engine stay in the usual place to the left of the engine as you look at it or should there be one underneath the engine as well. I think that might have been a later addition.

I found a tee piece so I can use the oil pressure and oil temp gauges that i have does anyone know if there is a better method.

So connected up the fuel pump electrics pushed the starter button and she started first pop. I have a capillary oil pressure gauge. Do I need to prime it somehow? Obviously I haven't had the engine running for more than about 10 seconds. Theres no exhaust on it for one thing.

so you have a pre engage starter and a pre verto clutch arm. i guess you have a pre verto flywheel with a suitable ring gear for the starter?

also it may just be the camera angle the the big red cable looks very close to the metal earthed body of the solenoid.

It is a pre verto set up with an orange clutch diaphragm. It turns over fine so I'm assuming I have the right starter etc. I used the original solenoid as a relay for the starter.

means little

if you dont have the correct starter for the flywheel you are opening yourself to a lot of issues.

pre verto or inertia flywheels  have 107 teeth on them and the starter has 9 teeth

verto or preingage flywheels have 129 teeth on them and the starter has 10 teeth.

if the ring gear has been changed for the correct on for the starter you will be fine.

Its new a pre verto flywheel C-AEG420 for a pre-engaged starter....best of both

Probably one of the very last orange diaphragm clutches....until someone remakes them

Or at least the actual spring steel part

I have an interesting suspension issue. The car came with adjustable suspension trumpets. They aren't hi low ones I think they are mini sport versions
Anyway with the front ones set on there lowest setting I still have 3 inches between tyre and wheelarch which seems a lot? The rears are definitely lower. I've been told that the knuckle joints come in different sizes. Perhaps I have the longer ones on the car. I was to be honest hoping to have the car lower to the ground. The only change I've made is to fit red spot cones to the front. These should make the suspension harder but I thought ride height would be the same as a softer cone. Any thoughts appreciated.

The spare set of knuckle joints have a out 19mm to 20mm of rod on the top.

later ones had a thicker seat so there was no need to fit a washer to raise the suspension.

your options are to have the alloy machined. fit a thinner lock lock nut or machine the bolt.  i would machine the alloy and look for the older design knuckle.

Thanks for the help when you say later o ea do you mean the knuckle joints?

I was thinking I could just buy proper hi los? But would they be any lower. Is the 3 inch gap normal or do think I have something wrong or not seated properly. When your talking about machining the allow you presumably mean the adjustable trumpets
It might just be easier to buy proper hi los

Photo looks to be earlier type knuckle.

Has it just been reassembled? They can sit incredibly high until they settle.

Yes I've just reassembled all the front suspension with new components after switching to S discs from drums. My problem is I dont know how low to expect the suspension to sit after it all settles in. 3 inch gap seems like a lot on lowest setting.
