So... going off manufacturer reccomendations this is at the limit of a fillers capability. What are your suggestions ?

First thing is to chip off the bitumen on the floor pan, that will then give you an idea or how far back the damage is. Also peel the carpet off the inner sill.
A quick glimpse shows you will need a lower section of the flitch and at least a corner of a floor pan. Both panels readily available and cheap.

You can cut out of these what you need to repair the damage. If you have any sheet metal skills then you could fabricate your own repair sections.

That is an important structural area. Filler would fall out as the area would flex. Also it would fail MOT, not to mention what would happen in a frontal crash. Seen lots of those, when they were using rusty old Minis in a research program. You are absolutely right to repair it, and add value to the car.
