Hello All.

First off, i apologise if these questions seem mindlessly simple to you- i have had a mini previously, but never experienced these problems so unsure where to start with them!

My 1980 mini Clubman has developed a problem with its clutch. When i compress the clutch pedal it feels like its catching on something, almost a dry feel (if thats possible)? Any ideas on what this could be?

Also, stupid question number 2: Where can i find the earth on a 1980 clubman? I think this may be the source of the electrical problems with the car but i haven't got a clue where to find them! Every post i look at tells me something different!

Thank you all in advance, any help is hugely appreciated

clutch could be anything from pivots needing some lube to some corrosion on the cylinders. sorry you will need to work your way through that.

the earth is everywhere as in the shell.

so there are two earth straps. one from the neg terminal of the battery to the shell. and then there is the engine earth strap that will go from some part of the engine to the body shell where varies due to what owners have done over the years. but top engine steady to cross member, clutch housing to inner wing or other part. engine to Subframe is NOT good.

Brilliant, thank you. I’ll have a look at finding the earth straps now. The negative to shell looks fine so I’d assume it’s the one in the engine bay that’s causing the issues.

As for the clutch, I’ll have a look at it over the weekend- fingers crossed it is just a case of pivots needing lube. I’ll keep you posted.

Thanks.

Also clean the earth wires (terminals and body back to shiny metal) on the right hand bulkhead strengthener (7/16ths headed bolt)
