Extra Holes Seat Belt Mounting.

Early cars didnt have a welded on captive plate for the seat belt mount. Instead they had two separate plates with captive nuts that the seat belts bolted to.

I know there is a panel of captive nuts underneath the tunnel for the seat belt mount, but the 2 extra holes confuse me.  Could someone shed light on this.  THanks.

To be honest I cant imagine the two smaller bolts being any less safe than one larger bolt.

I suspect the change had more to do with the standardisation of seat belt mountings and speed of installation at the factory.
