Hello,

I've just bought a 98 Mini Cooper sport and it's in need of restoring. Now the more and more I get involved the more I want to go back to Originality.

Now people updated the radio!/Stereo systems in the minis to non standard CD players.

I was just wondering if it was worth going back to the oringinal cassette player ? R600.

Thoughts?....

It is well worth going back to the correct radio if you want an original car!

My '91 has its correct Rover stereo.  Sound quality is very good, all things considered.  You can't hear much in a Mini anyway so the best quality modern setup would be a bit pointless anyway!

I buy my wife cassettes for her birthday,Hanukkah and christmas presents, it's all part of the charm on a standard car.

I'm having my old radio converted to work with Bluetooth, so you get the look of originality with modern convenience.

This place is doing it for me http://www.vintagewi....uk/repairs.php

Very reasonable price as well.

Yes why not keep it period. Part of the charm of our cars for me is that they are not modernised (okay disc brakes in place of drums for ease of maintaining perhaps)

Quoted me £67, suppose that could vary though depending on the model?

Nice to have a period radio. They are usually pretty easy to modify for an aux input if you wanted as well.

A 98 Mini Cooper can also be equipped with a cd43 cd-player, that was also original and is right for the period.

This is probably a stupid question but I've just bought a cassette player. The R660 rover one. Now it has rover on the cassette tray lip. I've seen the mini emblem on the same radio. Now the question is did the later minis like my 1998 Cooper sport have the rover cassette player or a mini cassette player. Considering the mini cassette is incredibly hard to find and I have read that the later models did have the rover cassette.

Can some one please set me straight. I mean the rover one is fine but it's just peace of mind.

Thanks

Later ones had the MINI winged logo on the tape player. Looking at the brochures it changes with the introduction of the MPI. Both have an R660.
