Hi everyone! I am new to the mini scene so please bear with me.

I have loved classic minis as far as I can remember and I finally bought a 1997 mini cooper but unfortunately, the engine blew up and is terminal. I am now looking to replace the engine and have found one that is much lower in mileage from another written off mini.

The plan is to restore the mini to a good standard and keep it for as long as possible.

What are the positives and negatives of a replacement engine? Does it affect the value of the car negatively or positively?

What documents do I need to obtain in relation to the replacement? Do I need to notify the DVLA and insurance company?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Much appreciated.

Why is the engine terminal, when you say blew up, what's the current condition?

Hi! Thanks for response.

The engine blew up while driving. There's a big hole in it. I've had it checked by a mini specialist and they've confirmed it's needs a replacement.
