Hi everyone!

I have always adored classic Mini’s and now finally the time has come where I might actually be able to buy one! :D

I found a car that has my interest (in the Netherlands, where I am from) and I would like to get some opinions from people that have more experience than me when it comes to classic Mini’s.

This is going to be my first classic car, but my boyfriend has some classic Porsches and a garage where we would be able to work on the Mini.

How do you think this car looks? Would it be a good price? All the help is very much appreciated.

Thank you very much in advance, would love to hear what you all think of this car!

It's beautiful Miranda. But then it should be for €21k! I'd perhaps like to see the sills in body colour, but it otherwise seems good.

If you're going to pay that sort of money you need to take someone who understands Mini's with you who can thoroughly inspect it for you, especially the bodywork.

@Boycie thank you! I will make sure we take a good look at that :-)

@Northernpower I don’t actually know anyone that knows a lot about Mini’s that’s why I thought it would be a good idea to post it here first. I do know a lot of carguys that are experienced in other classic cars and will help me when I decide to go and have a look. Thanks!

All classic cars have their unique problems and the Mini is no exception, A general knowledge of classic cars while being useful will not help too much with the hidden problems in the Mini bodywork.

I agree, I will contact a Mini dealer and ask if he can help me out.

Also I was wondering why the rockers and bottom of the car would be black, anyone knows a reason why this would be done?

There may be members on here who live in your location who may be willing to help.

As far as the sills are concerned, its the easiest way to hide rust :proud:

That Mini looks lovely       - but they often do look lovely (especially in photographs) untill you start looking closely. It's not easy but you must use your head & not your heart.

"very original condition....nice & original red leather upholstery....free of rust.... the undercarriage is rock solid"

-It has a non-original steering wheel & gear-knob, in 1968 you could pay the dealership to have wing mirrors fitted (not door mirrors), it's missing a boot badge & has two holes in the boot, the seats are vinyl covered fabric & not leather - none of this is too important & can be easily fixed.

....but like all Minis i would be more worried about the bodywork. The bottom of the car has been covered in a fresh coat of underseal- it's great for hiding any problems (I especially like the way they have coated half the gearchange), it would have originally had had 4 vent sills -they have fitted oversills (no drain holes so the water/rust builds up inside them). The A panels are distorted under the top door hinges, & the rear subframe has been severely damaged with a large hammer to fit a centre exit exhaust.

As everyone has said you need someone who really knows Minis to look at this car, maybe someone from the twente Mini Owners Club could check the car out with you http://www.moctwente.nl/

Thank you all for the help! I wrote it all down and will take these notes to a Mini specialist and check the car together with him!
