Hi all.
As some might know, I'm having problems getting my mpi to run correctly. I've come to the conclusion that its a fuel pressure problem. I put a tube on the fuel line and used the fuel pump to empty the tank, the flow was there but there was no pressure. I put my finger on the end of the tube and the flow stopped. I didn't even have to push on the end of the tube to stop it.
So I removed the tank and pump. It says on the pump,
03671 5176550
Is this an mpi pump or spi one ?

Thanks

Pete.

Should be 3bar (approx 45psi) so shouldn’t be able to put your finger over it without it spraying. I’m with Sprocket it’s finished or the filter bag part is blocked (in the tank). Either way you need to take the tank out and remove the pump assembly.

So, I've got the pump out and has wired it up to a battery and tubes etc, and it does flow quite well.

How can I test it to see how much pressure it is pushing ?

Difficult to test, best just to replace to eliminate it.

So, new fuel pump and fuel filter in.

New lambda sensor.

New inlet air temp sensor.

New coolant temp sensor.

New crank sensor.

Throttle pot tested and OK.

New spark plugs.

IACV cleaned and can be heard working.

I've cleaned all earth connections in the engine bay.

And the thing still runs like a pig, BUT it is much better than before. It still won't start unless the throttle is half way open and stalls if I lift off too much throttle, sometimes still backfires through the inlet, smells rich, but higher up the rev range, around 1800 rpm or more and it seems fine.

I have a T300 scanner and I'm seeing strange things. The lambda reading seems stuck at 1.75 volts ! The coolant temp at 8.4°C. But that might just be the dodgy clone reader the T300 is.

Any help appreciated, even small, it all helps, please  :proud:

Pete.

How would I make a log file ?

I'm getting a T4 this weekend so will tell you if the MAP is working OK.

So, the MAP sensor is dead, dead as a dodo as they say.

Apparently I should be getting a reading of 100kpa with the engine off. I'm reading 20kpa !!!

A new one is on it's way.

P.S. I WANT a T4 diagnostics kit.

Yup that’s atmospheric pressure with the engine off.
The problem with the T4 is 1) the cost to assemble all the bits or find a seller 2) the system it uses for some of the measurements is very reliant on the cables which can drift in tolerance over time.

So, it was the MAP, popped a new one in and it started on a flick of the key.

Happy days

Thanks everyone.
