Hi,

I am thinking of selling my Mini which I have owned for 6 years and thought I should get it valued first.

The original Mpi engine was swapped by previous owner. It has a single carb 1275cc Engine with uprated distributor and Nology Spark plugs.

It has had a new front end except the bonnet, scuttle and inner wings. fitted 2013

Hi-Lo's

New Supalight Alloys fitted 2012

New Radiator fitted 2012

New Sills fitted 2013

New Stainless steel grill and headlamp surrounds fitted 2013

New halogen Headlamps fitted 2013

New windscreen and seal fitted 2013 (windscreen has a small chip in mid passenger side)

New Heavy duty Tie Bar rods fitted 2013

New Complete Exhaust and Manifold fitted 2015

It Needs:

Sump plughole thread repair or new outer casing. Currently has emergency plug on it which is doing a good job.

A new rear subframe

A patch over the box section of the sill on driver side wheel well

Some rust repairs in boot and outer body just below rear windscreen.

Rear windscreen seal

Gear selector seal repair. (small oil leak from it)

The air intake holes have been repaired and blocked off to prevent water getting in. This is reversable.

I was thinking around £1800 to £2000 as it does need work and the interior may not be to everyones taste. Is that too high?

Thanks

Andy

I think your valuation is about right and what it would achieve on ebay, with a bit of luck.

The fact it's lost the right engine is an issue, but not enough to put off a proper Mini person and the body looks well redeemable.

Good luck with the sale.

I think one of the issues with a carb engine in a 1997 car is whether it would pass the emission test for an MOT.

A valid point. Would need to be leaned to within an inch of its life for the test. Or require the probe inserting into an exhaust not connected to the engine lol

I'm pretty sure the MoT emissions test goes on the age of the engine, not the car itself.  Maybe you'd have to provide proof of when your engine started life, however...

Also, I think the rules are about to change regarding emissions.

MOT emissions are currently tested on age of engine OR car, whichever is oldest. Providing you have some evidence of the engines provenance then it will be tested at that age

I am in Chirbury, Shropshire.

The garage I took it to had the same concerns regarding emissions but the only thing it's failed on was lack of a battery strap (hence the homemade one in one of the pics) I am pretty sure some tweaking was done to get it through the test and then reverted back. I do remember him saying that he might be able to do it without the CAT on it but this was nearly 2 years ago.

I was gutted when I found out the engine had been swapped and the floors were rotten (which have been sorted)  but it's my own fault for not doing my homework or bringing someone with me who knew cars.

I have an emissions test for catalyst equipped vehicle from 2013

Fast idle

CO  0.01%

HC  38 ppm

Lambda 1.02

Natural Idle test

engine speed 879 RPM

CO 0.01%

I had no provenance whatsoever so I am guessing that is why he did the CAT test.
