Finally got my mini here(Canada) from Japan, took 5 months O_O  but it is missing the front badge. What was the stock front badge for a 1996 SPI Japanese spec car?

Here it is with my wife at helm

It came with all the original paper work that includes some interesting Japanese drawings.

What is the girl up to, playing with a top??

I believe that a 1996 would have had a shield type badge. However, your car has had the chrome trim removed from the bonnet when the Mk1 type grille was added, so it's also possible the front badge holes might not match a 1996 badge?

You can see some examples of the badges here:

It is this one. I had a 1996 JDM mini (seen in my profile pic, since sold on). I still have the badge as I changed it to the same shape badge which said “Mini”. If you want the Rover one let me know. I could be persuaded to part with it cheap.

Looking at the 'tide mark' where the badge was fitted, it looks like it had an older Austin/Morris Cooper badge, like 6/7 or 8/9 on the minispares link. Would seem to be in line with the other retro touches. The Rover badge might look a little odd over the mk1 style grille. Just my two pence worth!

I don't recall the Rover badges being fitted to the Mini's, only Rover cars were fitted with those. Mini was it's own brand after the Austin/Morris name was dropped.

I'd suspect if it didn't start life as a limited edition, then the Mini badge "no 16" would have been the original.

I just don't recall seeing any mini's with any Rover badges on them. Only brochure material. The Japanese also had a habit of not leaving anything standard.

Japanese minis had the rover badge in the 1990’s.  Also note "ROVER" on the boot lid.  This was stock in Japan, not modified.  I do agree that someone modified your bonnet to accept an earlier badge though.  The proper badge for your mini probably wouldn't go with the Mk1 look it has now.Attached File  charcoal1 (Large).jpg   69.44K   3 downloads

Huh. What year is yours? I dont pretend to know everything about JDM minis, but I do know that they used the Rover badge in the mid 90s. Perhaps they changed toward the end of the run?

Heres a few I pulled from a Japanese dealers site. These all tended to be 94-96.
