Hi everyone, I'm an, almost, complete novice! Had a 1969 mini and a mini van many decades ago and have never forgotten them. I really want another mini and have started to do some research but I'm really lost! I only have £6500 to spend and l'm in south Liverpool. Is there anyone out there with the knowledge, time and willingness to help please? Thanks a million.

Wouldn't put myself forward for the task but I'm sure that as a minimum people will help with lots of advice. I think if you aim for a solid car rather than being fooled by looks 6k will get you something very nice.

Best of luck to you and welcome to TMF :D

I would just focus on the bodywork. As that is what would cost the most to fix. I am no expert though, bare in mind, most mechanical jobs on a mini can be completed by a novice with a Haynes manual and some tools...i should know. HOwever paying a garage to weld in new panels and then spray will cost alot very quickly. I think if you shop around 6.5k will get you something pretty nice. Just look for the more "standard" editions. If you want a Cooper etc you won't get a very good one for that money which will cost more in the future.
And as the previous poster said don't get sucked into the pretty looking ones, I would look for an unmodified Car that way you can put your stamp on it. Plus you don't know to what standard someone else has done the work.
Good luck in your search and.i hope you have many happy mini days in the future :)

Thanks eds, I think l have found one! It’s a Japanese import with a 99% perfect body, 1993 cooper 1.3i, all original, only problem is someone else also wants it, so I’ll have to keep my fingers crossed she changes her mind after test driving it (It’s having a new exhaust fitted first). Fingers crossed. Thanks again.

Hi Ellie,

I would put myself in the same boat as you! Except I am looking for my first Mini! Just waiting on the garage roof getting repaired before I start looking properly. I have also looked at the Jap imports as they seem to have solid body's.

Can I just ask who you are looking with for the Jap imports as the dealers who get them seem few and far between at the minute :)

Thanks

Danny
