is there a way of finding out what colour my car was originally?

I'm not sure if it has ever had a colour change or not, but I'm just wondering if I could find out the cars original colour somehow, I'm debating if I should do some really eye catching unique paint job, or if I should try to put it back to standard.

I think there was originally a sticker in the drivers door shut that had the colour code on it for that period of car, but thats probably long gone.
The heritage certificate for my '72 doesn't show the colour.
What colour is it now?
You can usually find traces of the original colour somewhere if you start poking around.

it was chemically dipped before I bought it, so all the original paint has gone, its just a bare shell and a few bits in boxes at the minute

the interior I have no idea on, sadly the dip has seen all the original paint off.

it says blue on the V5, it doesn't mention that it has had a colour change. I wasn't sure if it may have had a colour change when it had the old style logbook, then when the DVLA changed to the new style logbook it may not state that it had a colour change or not anymore? is that possible?

as its a 72, I'm guessing it is most likely to be teal?

I had a Teal Blue MGB GT on a K reg, I'd say it stands a good chance. Nice colour too, probably Autumn leaf door cards if it was.

Heritage might hold some basic data on it, they do for some cars of that era. You could try applying for a heritage certificate and see what they come back with?

For 1972 Glacier White, Flame Red, Harvest Gold, Damask Red, Black Tulip, Blaze, Bronze Yellow and Teal Blue were pretty much it - there was a darkish green that didn't last long around 1972/73 possibly called Green Mallard. Pretty sure Teal Blue was the only blue for Mini saloons in 1972, Denim Blue Metallic was much later.

If you do an HPI type car check that should tell you any colour changes since the early 1980's

Did you get the original doors or bootlid with the shell? If they haven't been dipped then hopefully you might find traces of the original colour in the hard to reach/see areas.

As for colour -it was first registered in 1972: IF it was built in 1972 then http://mk1-performan...o.uk/pdf/72.pdf

However if it was built in 1971 then http://mk1-performan...k/pdf/70-71.pdf (you might prefer Aqua to the more usual Teal Blue).

Didn't think there were any metallic colours in the early 70's.
I had a 72 clubman estate in teal blue, it had a lime flower interior. The only other blueish colour back then was the turquoise Aqua colour, but as above I think that had gone by 72.
