    Starting My Mini Up

I have a 1975 Mini which is about to be painted Bracken (as I have happy memories of being driven around in an orange mini as a child)

However the bodyshop have contacted us with a small test patch of the colour BLVC93 as they were doubtful that this was what I had asked for.

I have to say it looks very brown (sort of brick) and not at all like the orange I remember, which was a sort of baked bean colour.

I emailed a link of a picture from an original bracken mini to the bodyshop and they have confirmed that they do not think they have the right paint but did order BLVC93.

The bracken coloured minis on this forum do seem to be the colour I was after.

Do I tell them to go ahead and hope it is the right colour? (Hoping it will look better with primer? - the test patch is just on bare metal. However even the bodyshop doubt it will match the picture we have, or my memory)

Is it possible that my Mum had a different colour? She bought her mini in 1974/75 from a mini dealer as new and it was definitely "orange". I just assumed it must be bracken from the year. From what I can make out that is the only orange colour for a mini of that era???

Scroll down a little there's a color code for "bracken" If you search the Restoration MIni site you'll see so photos of a car painted that color.

get them to do a spray out card of the colour and post it to you if you can't get there.

I have done this in the past for distant customers and it makes sure there are no issues. Would be a shame to let them go ahead and it's wrong

I thought Bracken was quite brown - are you sure you're not thinking of Bronze Yellow (BLVC15)

Ben_O has a good photo of Bronze paint on one of his threads.

Could be Blaze, I would say that was the most baked bean like colour.

I agree with 62S -Blaze looks very red in print.... but more orange in photos

If you're desperate for the look you could always cover the car in baked bean juice.... as long as you don't mind people licking your car -Yum Yum! :P

Makes me want to buy a window sticker saying LICK MY MINI.

How did the Bracken spray job go?

Any pictures?

About to spray my mk3 the correct Bracken so it would be good to see a finished article as it’s a rare colour.

Also on the look out for sorrel door cards
